THAT ONE TIME A ROMAN NERD PREDICTED THE APOCALYPSE AND EVERYONE GOT LAID INSTEAD

How Publius Manilius Testiculus Turned Doomsday into a City-Wide Orgy

In the dying days of the Roman Empire—a period historians politely call the “Tits-Up Era”—most astronomers were busy with the important work of telling rich senators if Mercury in retrograde was why their dicks weren’t working. All except one magnificent bastard: Publius Manilius Testiculus. While his colleagues stared at the heavens, Publius was charting the real omens: the soaring price of Falernian wine, the structural integrity of the Colosseum’s public toilets, the average number of barbarians a Vestal Virgin could bed in a single week before getting bored. He called his new science “Futilomancy,” the study of screamingly obvious decline.

After years spent flinging fermented fish paste at star charts and consulting an oracle who was just a goose with a bad attitude, Publius unveiled his masterpiece. It wasn’t a prediction for an eclipse; it was an E-Z-Pass to the End Times. He pinpointed the exact moment the Western Roman Empire would finally, officially, shit the bed. Not in a blaze of glory, but with a sad, wet little fart. The date: 4:32 PM, post-meridian, on the 28th of August, 476 AD. He presented his findings, meticulously recorded on a scroll titled *An Inconvenient Truth, Asshole*, to Emperor Romulus Augustulus—a snot-nosed teenager so famously useless they nicknamed him “Momyllus,” or “Little Disgrace.” The emperor patted Publius on the head and went back to his prize-winning chickens.

But the Roman people? Oh, they knew a good excuse for a party when they saw one. The prediction went viral, passed along by gossiping slaves and bored aristocrats looking for a new kink. “The End is Nigh!” became less a warning and more a party invitation. It was dubbed the *Festa Fartalis*, the Festival of the Final Fart, and the whole of Rome prepared for the ultimate rager. Property was sold for wine, heirlooms were traded for exotic fuck-slaves, and everyone invited their worst enemies just to watch the chaos.

The day itself was a masterpiece of human depravity. It was as if the entire city decided to cram a century’s worth of sin into a single 24-hour period. Senators were found in compromising positions with statuary. The Forum became a writhing mass of humanity that would’ve made Bacchus blush and take notes. At 4:31 PM, a hush fell. A million Romans paused mid-coitus, mid-vomit, mid-blasphemy, and stared at the sky. The clock struck 4:32. And… nothing. A donkey brayed. Someone in the back booed. The sun kept shining. It was the most disappointing apocalypse in history.

Publius, watching from his rooftop, just sighed and took a massive swig of wine. He’d miscalculated the final variable: the sheer, stubborn refusal of a truly broken system to die on schedule. When the German chieftain Odoacer actually showed up a week later to sack the city, he found everyone passed out, hungover, and covered in things we cannot legally describe. He took the crown with a confused shrug, leaving the Romans to their city-wide walk of shame. The Empire hadn’t ended with a bang or a whimper, but with a collective, debilitating hangover.

He tried to warn them the vibes were catastrophically off.
